Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

I pretty much agree with you on good modern DACs....

The best sounding DACs seem to sound similar to me with slight differences that cater to our individual tastes. It's the bad DACs that stand out and 'blow me away' -- in the wrong way!

I've been eyeing the newer Gustard A26. Not that I rely on YouTube but the common theme I'm seeing among different reviewers is that they prefer the X26 Pro [and new A26] vs the R2R Gustard R26. Some have also compared against Denafrips R2R.

Many have said the R2R DACs are great with vocals and what I would call "simple music" but start to sound closed in or compressed with lots going on. I would describe it as a little congested. This is what I heard in the two R2R DACs I had here compared to a couple ESS and AKM based DACs. My conclusion admittedly based on too small of a sample is that R2R is very well suited for certain music but Sigma-Delta is more accommodating for all genres.
