Re: Who is Dan W?

Well, I don't know who he is either! But he graciously answered a question I had about parts for a power supply mod someone else posted about. He gave me the exact type to order, and I have. He didn't try to sell me anything either. I thought that was pretty cool.

About the XXX dollars for "just soldering" and stuff....how do you think he, or anyone else, knows what parts to substitute? Maybe research, asking around, knowledge? Ultimately it took some time and effort on his part. Another thing, I'll be taking a soldering iron to a power supply. If I screw up, I yell "drats" and replace it. If I were to pay someone money to do it for me and they screw up, I go "Rraaauughh" and expect repair or replacement. No matter how simple the mod, there's a chance to screw up and destroy something. In all fairness, there must be a surcharge to accomodate this small chance.

On the internet there is a fancy word; disintermediation. It means that there is no sales channel or big corporation to deal with if you don't want it. Everybody who does "i-business" builds a reputation that can go up or down in seconds! If Dan or anyone one else rips off internet savvy customers, we'd know it fast.
