Re: Who is Dan W?

There is no "maybe" about it...

There are many ways to get a point across, many ways to be helpful. They do not usually involve innuendo, suspicion etc.

In some areas of life, aren't people 'innocent until proven guilty'? Why do I get the feeling that your posts turned that around.

If your motives were good...thanks for the good intentions! But I think a number of respondants here made it quite clear what they think of your manner and methods.

You could have done a brief discourse on herd mentality in audiophile groups...tied that in with observations on folks' eagerness to rush out and get the 'in' thing...raised concern that eagerness and naivity might set some folks up for a fall...etc. But you could also have talked about the ingenuity that some folks have...could have remarked on the heroic and heartwarming assistance some people offer fellow hobbyists, and the wealth of information available for sharing. In other words, you could have shared thoughts and ideas in a more positive fashion...you might have been able to prompt an exchange of thoughts, rather than prompting folks to put their time and effort towards defending someone they have come to admire or trust.

You could have done a lot without naming names. Or you could have mentioned mods you have had done with good results...in addition to reputable and cost effective services you had heard about but not personally experienced. And you could have asked about Dan W in that context, in a more neutral fashion...ie, demonstrating an eagerness to learn about him, and a willingness to be convinced one way or another...rather than taking a negative approach, which did more to give folks an unflattering view of yourself, rather than tarnish the good opinion they seem to have of Dan.
