May be I am too harsh on Dan, but I would say the same thing to
anyone. Apparently, he is the only one here doing this here.
I could say more, harsher, but everyone got the picture.I have no doubt that Dan does a good job on whatever he claims, and
treats his customers well. No doubt that he is a nice person and
enthuastic in this hobby. But that was not my point. I just
wanted people, especially new comers, to investiage a little bit
more, look for alternatives, and get what's worth. All of a
sudden, people running around for the "Dan W Mod", uhhh, the P3A
won't sound good without the "Dan W Mod". I can't help
rolling my eyes. This gives a bad name for other professionals
who make a living out of buildling and modifying gears.Do you guys know how much Stan Warren, Ric Schultz, Jennifer
Crock charge? not trying to advertise for them here. Stan charged about
$250 to *modify* the 22B, the whole output stage was changed, plus various
power supply and signal paths clean up. He also charged $200 to *modify*
the se100 monoblocks, changed and cleaned up the circuit, etc.
Maybe they are charging too little! I wonder what Stan could
do with $300 on the P3A.p.s. you pay a technician in a repair shop to diagnosis, to
measure, to repair. That involves a lot more than desoldering
and soldering.
