Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

more to the point....

even a Planet 2000 for $475 is a decent price here in the states, so don't sweat that.

It is a good thing to think about synergy between the cdp and the downstream stuff. I am not sure what you/others might mean by "too warm"-it could mean lots of things to different people. If you mean sort of mushy, dark, not very dynamic, then I understand.

I have an all-tube Cary set-up, and my Planet (modified original) sounds great. A Planet is not so much "warm" as it is slightly lacking in articulation of detail and dynamics. Many cdp in its price range don't lack those things to the same degree, but they do not have realistic tonality-they sometimes lack full sonic color, notably in voices and midrange tones.

I think that the primary target of concern might not be the cdp, but your int. amp. I might, if having not done so, try some alternative tubes to make sure that those tubes give the desired sound, and also that the relatively old electronic components (caps, etc.) are still in top condition. If that stuff starts to go, cdp choice is not going to matter much.
