Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: A couple of questions for all you CD demagnetists out there.

I got my RD-1 about five/six months ago from Hongkong and which is said to be the 2nd generation with 220V (first generation seems to be 110V). I just checked it before this posting and found out that the demagnetization process took 17-18 sec before the green light went off. But on Furutech’s ad, it claims 20 sec. So it seems to me it is the same product as the RD-2 in US market. As far as I know, there is no RD-2 in the markets of Singapore or Hongkong (please correct me any inmates from HK if I am wrong).

As per Furutech’s ad in local hifi mag, there appear magnetized phenomenon on both sides of the cd as tested under a magnetic testing equipment (no mention of details) especially for cd with high contents of printing inks (the printed surface). It did not mention that it can demagnetize non-ferrous objects. The demagnetizer is claimed to reduce the chance of incorrect reading by the laser head (which happens if the disc is magnetized), to raise the S/N ratio, to increase the good quality signal data and to raise the extensions also.

As I posted earlier on, I can hear the improvement after demagnetization but it is not day and night (listening the same track before and after demagnetization). Improvement is roughly ranging from 3-10% (judged by my ears) depends on disc. In one occasion, I found the result is just like what you see a beautiful lady before and after she washes her face when she wakes up (no make-up yet!). Just my opinion.
