My guess is that the vast majority of CD players and DACs now use single-bit chips, with multi-bit is in the minority. It's simple economics--single-bit is much cheaper to manufacture and easier to impliment, usually requiring only one power supply voltage over the several required by multi-bit chips.Of the multi-bit types, the concensus here at AA and elsewhere is that the Philips TDA1541 has the edge over the Burr-Brown and Analog Devices.
