Hey DocW:Talk about comparing David and Goliath there! Good for you. Most people would just be happy to ASSUME a Pioneer Elite piece would be superior hands down and not bother to compare it to anything else.
I mean - just look at the BUILD QUALITY of the chasis alone...
Well, I salute you for doing such a comparison. Some here would balk at giving the "little guys" a shot at the title.
But one thing I have learned for SURE is that when a $99 DVD player starts sounding every bit as good (even better in some areas) than a $2000 CDP I am starting to change my perspective on this hobby.
I don't have wine and cheese parties where I proudly display a $30K system to a group of fellow audiophiles. In fact, I don't have parties and am somewhat of an isolationist, which is sometimes beneficial.
There can be no peer pressure in the absence of ones peers. ;)
Anyhow. These $100 wonders are not killing everything out there. But they are indeed surpasing some more expensive units with older technology. Chipsets are chipsets. ANd they are getting better, faster and quiter all the time. I just find it interesting that some inmates are getting more nervous than others about the sound quality of these little gems. Perhaps their 10 year old front end doesn't cut it anymore - even though it cost them a small fortune at the time! ;)
Cheers,
Presto
