Bluenose:Thanks for the recommendation... I'm always on the lookout for software that is "good" but "sounds good" as well.
I just may mod the 4960 - I am not sure yet. I may only mod parts of the circuit such as the power supply, since I am only using it as a transport right now. Most of the mods seem to focus on increasing capacitance of caps throughout the circuit "just because". I am not convinced that such an approach is really necessary, but since it is so cheap, only time is the consideration. I also have no experience with audiophile-grade capacitors so I will be making no comments on those.
Well... it's off to the listening room. I am now going to compare the 4960 to the Pioneer DV-578A.
