Samsung HD841 tonight vs. Pioneer Elite DV-47Ai, both universals. I have semi broken in the Samsung, but it's still new really. The Samsung has a smooth quality with precise placement in the soundstage, but the Pioneer is much more vital and lively, more real. But it's got a bit more digital glare. That's after only a couple of hrs on a variety of rbcd and dvd incl. Norah Jones in New Orleans.btw, the latter disc has a markedly different sound when listening on my 2 channel system to 2 ch audio vs. 5.1 audio. The latter is much more immediate and has low bass which is absent in the 2 ch. I posted that before.
