Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Your Preference: Wadia 861, Resolution Opus 21, Audio Aero Capitole MKII

Because I’m in need of a digital upgrade, I’ve read and re-read everything on this site and others, about recommended equipment with volume controls. In fact, the good things said about the Resolution Opus 21 influenced my decision to in-home audition one. What a great machine for the money. It beat a Wadia 301 in all areas I find valuable – musicality, instrumental air, bottom to top coherence, etc….

With that said, I’m considering the following: Wadia 861, Audio Aero Capitole MkII and Resolution Audio Opus 21.

I’m aware of the apparent growing pains suffered by the Capitole MKII and understand that it would be important to obtain one with the newest chip (P 4.3 I believe). In fact, I’ve been told by the distributor that a newer model &/or configuration is forthcoming with analog inputs so the machine can be used as a true pre-amp.

Because I don’t know of any dealers close to Indianapolis, I apparently can’t audition a Capitole.

Consequently, I’m looking for opinions (and hopefully the reasons for same) of which player you would prefer if your choice was mine (i.e., preferably these (3) players, and only those with volume controls).

BTW, my 2-channel rig is as follows: Wadia 830, Cat JL-1 amps, Soundlab M1 speakers.
