RE: DAC for Red Book CD's

I have a Wadia 15 which uses what has been described as maybe the best chip ever. The Burr Brown PCM63. This comment comes from Mike Moffatt, ex of Theta and now of Schiit fame. This is R2R ladder topology which predates the cheaper and easier to implement Delta/Sigma architecture.

Having said that I have heard some Delta/Sigma DACs sound extremely fine playing high-res. files, but at a price many times your budget.

In addition to Wadia there is the great sounding Audio Note, also R2R and also quite pricey.

The Wadia 15 only plays redbook and plays it better than any other DAC I have heard in my system. I have a Bryston BDA-1 which when playing even high-res does not do what the Wadia can for simply enjoying music.

2 brands mentioned earlier in the thread, Cambridge 851 and Yggdrasil, I have in my system. Friends came over with their respective units to compare to mine. Let me just say that it was agreed unanimously that the Wadia was preferred.

This thing just boogies along doing something for the music that the others didn't. Understand that this is in my system with my cables. Perhaps changing cables might have improved the challengers. They had plenty clean detail and the Yggy a bigger soundstage but neither would let you forget that you were listening to hi-fi.

Due to the current world upheaval I need to sell off some kit. I do not know the protocol here for selling. If anybody is interested in a bargain on either of my DACs, please email me or post on this thread.
