I agree with fmak: cabling has great influence. Don't jump to conclusions on removing the Purcell or even worse: on upsampling as such. Mind you, you did remove the interconects as well ;-) The effect you describe do relate to cable quality IMHO. A week ago I replaced my Apogee Wyde Eye AES/EBU's for Acoustic Zen MC2's, with dramatic effects. Recommended!
