Re: kilo-bucks cd systems

I don't have a mega-bucks systems, however,
I have compared an asian version of the toshiba DVD with an Accuphase DP-65V.
The toshiba DVD has weaker dynamics, less details, less fullness and less seperation, and it is fairly obvious that it is overall a lesser player, when compared with equipment of a higher grade.

However, compared with CD players of the price range somewhere between $1200 and $2500 (from memory), this Toshiba DVD is better in a few aspects, especially in the lack digital glare/harshness.

Side note: (Judging from the circuit board pics on Web, this asian version is very similar to 3950, and reading the data sheets from burr brown, the dac PCM1742 has almost exactly the same architecture as the 1753/1751 in 3950, exact for the decoupled VDD 1742).
