This is really interesting -- thanks for posting your listening impressions!Of course, what's truly fascinating is your comparison of the 75v feeding the dCS combo with the SCD-1 playing SACDs. While some may take your observation that these two playback chains were going neck-and-neck as proof that we really don't need SACDs after all -- you know, "PCM done right is just as good as DSD" -- I'm reading something different into all this. Specifically, when you consider that (1) compared to PCM technology, DSD mastering and playback is still in its infancy, and (2) we're pitting highly refined components from companies like Accuphase and dCS against a first-generation player from Sony, I'd say that your observations underscore just how wonderful this new format really is. It will be interesting to do similar comparisons in a few years, once companies like Accuphase and Linn have figured out how to make SACDs REALLY sing...
