Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: Question for 24/96 DACs

DK,
Have you ever really heard upsampling or interpolating done correctly?
If you heard a stock Perpetual P1-A from its coax out you have not heard what is possible. You must run I2S out of the Perpetual to hear what it can do. Not to mention tweaking the P1-A and using a much better power supply. Same goes for most upsampling DACs. Most upsampling DACs are just not done that well(to me), does this mean you can blame the upsampling? If adding information between the bits to create new false bits sounds more real- then it sounds more real. If what you have heard so far is not good, then don't just dismiss the idea, see if someone else can really do it right. For instance, I personally don't think the current Sony SACD players are all that great (I had a SCD-1 for over two months). By looking inside I can see that the Sony's have not very good output stages and power supplies. So, I don't dismiss SACD because I know what this kind of execution is capable of. I know that if the Sony can sound as good as it does with this limitation, then maybe SACD done right can be totally mind blowing. Another instance is digital amplification. Right now there is just the TACT and the Sharp. If you don't care for their sound, does that mean that all digital amps will forever suck? Give it time. Maybe someone can do better. Why close the doors? I know someone who spent an hour looking inside a TACT and found tons of things to change to make it a much bette product.
Can you really speak for all music lovers? You speak for yourself, as we all do.
An 18 bit DAC? Why? We are about to have true 24 bit/192K sources. You want to truncate that to 18 bits. Do you want to truncate 192K to 44K as well? Why doesn't AudioNote make DACs with 24 bit chips with no digital filters. You know why? Because 24 bit DACs would require at least 20 bits to make them work. Since you are not interpolating or dithering to 24 bits in the Audionote DACs, you can't use them. Simple as that. I am not against what they have done. I think it is very original and should sound great. Just not very forward thinking. It can only play CDs.
Anyway, enjoy the process. It will get better. All of it. In that, I am sure.
