Upsampling to 88.2 kHz is a synchronous conversion. Fewer losses than an asynchronous conversion to 96 kHz.

"The Purcell will give you many tweaking options by playing with its noise-shaping and dithering settings..."

This is only useful in a downconversion... Dither is a method of minimizing resolution loss in a downconversion.
