I have one with the 296 and love it. I'm not sure if I would consider it with out the 296 though. The combination of the two ,to me anway, makes the sound. BTW the 296 sounds great with any other transport as well!Anyway the 8 is a fantastic transport. It's quiet, fast and has excellent detail and resolution.
