This is interesting as I completely forgot they compared the dcs upsampler to the SACD1 when stereophile reviewd the sony. I have since become very familiar w/ both products. First of all, the 2 pieces that make up the dcs upsampler retail for $12.5- I believe. 2nd, I agree the dcs products sound richer to me then my own sacd1. I'm being objective (and pissed that I didn't reallocate my resources to the dcs products: no matter I believe I've found a buyer for my own sacd if I choose to go that route, but first must test as a transport.) Anyway, those dcs product are unbelievable and your entire cd collection works on them now which is a huge plus. However, the argument you must put forth is this sacd1 is not by any means the be all end all of sacd. There will be players out this year from some very high end companies that I would imagine (yes, i imagine w/out actually listening to them) will surpass the performance of either sony model. Fun stuff ahead...
