Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: Best source : DCS, Wadia or Mark Levinson ?

I used to own the Elgar and inevitably found it sounded better through a preamp than directly conected to the power amp. Whilst there was slightly - very slightly - more detail when directly connected, I found I enjoyed listening to music more with a pre in circuit.

Sold the Elgar as I needed the money; didn't replace it with a "better" converter, by the way. IMHO it is excellent, especially in the higher frequencies, which aren't hard as CD often can be.

You may want to try some single-box players as alternatives, though: Sony SCD1, Accuphase DP75V, that sort of thing.
