Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

DACs and Listener/System Compatibility........

I've heard inexpensive DACs that I like, I've heard expensive DAC's that I don't like......

DACs are the one audio component in which I've found very little correlation between price and sound quality..... At least to my ears...

I've also found DACs to be the point of disagreement over sound quality, more than any other audio component.......

There are a lot of variables in DAC evaluation..... From RFI of the various digital components to listener tolerance of RFI to type of digital cable used to signal integrity of the digital cable to the complexity of the music (the ideal filtering for complex music is not necessarily ideal for simple music), to component interface (impedance matching, analog output cable characteristics) to HF extension of the system to mains isolation of the digital source.....

And I've left out quite a few others.....

I also think the DAC, more than any other audio component, needs to be idealized to the listener's music and system.... (This includes the choice of digital filtering... ) More often than not, a listener's distaste in a DAC has more to do with compatibility with his/her system and tastes in music than the mere quality of the DAC itself.
