Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

dCS is a bit different company...

In fact, the Network Bridge is a 'down-sampler', introduced in part to extend the life of their 'legacy' DACs. No USB output with ridiculous sample rates, but a pretty decent sounding AES/EBU. It down-samples 24/352.8 to 24/192 as well as coverting DSD to PCM for those who own 'legacy' dCS gear; DACs made that per-dated those ridiculous sample rates we have today.

It's 'bridge' technology is currently build-in to their newer DACs, but the 'Mosaic' firmware remains the same throughout the line and, as it's a 'network' product, it's quite easy to upgrade.

So the guy buying a dCS Vivaldi One for $80,000 (plus clock) today may well end up running the same firmware version (1.1.0(503) as I am.

My guess is that, while dCS gives very few shits about ME, they will likely support the 50 lucky folks who can afford a Vivaldi One. =:-0

So, IF you have a 'legacy' DAC of any stripe that you DEARLY love and it supports 24/192 S/PDIF or AES/EBU but nothing higher and you want to keep it for a while, the dCS Network Bridge might be the ticket.

Even if there just might be a Raspberry Pi hiding somewhere inside. ;-)

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass
