I have a BC-509,which I enjoy.Ater purchase of the BHKs,I thought the DS would fit perfectly. Not so,just couldn't "cotton" to it.Very detailed, just not as ultimately musical to my ears.
Local seller has the Elgar+/Purcell up for sale at $4300.
Also looking at the BC-501 ob with some tweaking from GY.$3K + upgrade costs/shipping.
GY/BC is being handled by Bob@Amherst Audio.Still building.
I worry that I may not be a music listener who appreciates DSD encoding.Might be better off using RTR ladder dac.
I've heard all the details, but would prefer that their was more soul/body/weight.Without it,I become fatigued and don't relax.
For that reason,Am leaning toward the BC.
For the difference in price (List: $6K Vs $1.7K),I expected to get better detailing.I did get the detail, just not anything that reminded me that actual human being were making music.
Just my interpitation of what transpired. Also lost some of the "drive" in the bass, not as powerful or tuneful.
Never heard the 501,but was his all-out attempt in digital.
Has been a few years since I heard the DCS stack.I remember being suitably impressed with CD playback. That person had the "stack" (hated the Verdi-too much down-time) ,Pass X600s and Hales System 1 (with ceramic tweeter upgrade). It was a pleasure to listen to and sounded very natural, including hall ambience.Musical.
I hope this sheds a little light on this subject.
Thank you for your considerations.
