RE: dCS Verdi SDIF

" It will just be one awesome CD transport until I get a Elgar Plus."

And then you will run into the next barrier. Most IEEE1394 cables are not very good for music. I have loads of them from various manufacturers. The only one I would recommend is Audioquest Carbon. But the thickness of the Verdi /Elgar chassis means that the standard ones will not fit due to the amount of contact exposed from the cable's plastic cover. You can see that the actual IEEE1394 contact is set deep within the chassis wall. I had Audioquest make me a custom set by cutting some of the plastic away. In those days they had a jig for doing this. I have no idea if they would still do it.

It's too long ago for me to remember the software version numbers of my "Classic Series" dCS kit. However as I have the manual for v.1.2 that is no doubt what I was using. I remember finding the 16/44.1 downsample by accident. Nothing about it in the manual. I just have looked through the v.1.2 manual and cannot find any reference to it. Please give me a page number of your information if from the manual so I can check. I remember some staff from dCS being at my home back then and I think that they mentioned that the downsample was a feature of the Sony transport mechanism that they used and not a dCS innovation. But it was a long time ago...
