inevitable errors in the calculations used in the interpolation process, information must be lost. Therefore the only way to retain the original information is to stay at the bit rate present on the disc and use an analogue filter.

I'd love to see your proof that the application of _any numerical operations_ ***has*** to create errors.

Given enough taps and floating point precision , analog filters can be equaled or bettered with digital filters (especially given the fact digital filter can have the phase response altered). Its all in the implementation and in no way must create errors.
