In the case of DACs, NOS refers to "non-over-sampling"..... For CD, it converts the 16/44 words directly to analog, without any intermediate processing.
Since non-oversampling implies no digital filtering at all (oversampling is the digital filter), the "aliases" (above the audio range) are either passed through or filtered with solely analog filtering.
A lot of people like NOS DACs, I believe they don't do complex music particularly well..... Although maybe the best for simple acoustic music like string quartets, acoustic guitar, or minimally accompanied vocals.![]()
