Frankly speaking, I can't really detact any different between 176 and 192kHz in a blind test! My friend and I were suspecting that 176 could be better for the same reason and spent a whole evening trying to find out the truth! All we discovered is almost anybody can tell the different between 44.1 and 96 but from 96 onwards, we made lots of mistake trying to tell which is which! We were using the dCS 972 and Elgar. My friend just upgrade his Elgar to the new version with DSD input and he told me that using the dCS 972 to convert PCM 44.1 to DSD output is better than 24/192. The result is much more musical while 24/196 is a bit more analytical. But , you have to have a total of 6 digital cables! By the way, I settle down on filter 3...
