Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Nope, they are great and a failure :)

Howdy

More than one company produced them, heck a few companies still do build them and some DVD-A producers put a stereo LPCM DVD-V compatible program on their discs. Still the total number available is very small.

If you haven't listened to them you should, they sound great.

The biggest problem is lack of awareness and until recently a niche product without niche players has a hard row to hoe: Whose consumer DVD-V player really has a analog output section that does them justice? Until recently how many DVD-V players output 24/96 (most just put out 24/48 even for 24/96 material.) Until recently how many great 24/96 DACs have been available? ... DVD-A players have addressed some of this.
