You can do a lot worse than Accuphase for $25K !! Heck, my little used DP-65v cost me $3K and it's outstanding. I use it as my main CDP as well as an outboard DAC for my Sony 5-disc CD changer. The Cary 306/200 is also a reasonably priced player that sounds great and doubles as a very good DAC but these cost even less so he might not be interested. I auditioned the Levinson 39 before I bought the Cary 306/200 several years ago.
