I'll be bringing my Rogue Cronus Magnum tube integrated out of the closet along with a pair of Tannoy Definition D500 tower speakers. These will be placed along side my Thiel CS2.4 speakers for a change of pace. But I've done this before only to put this system away fairly quickly as the main setup sounds noticeable better. As I recall, the Tannoys did better in my smaller office setup before I moved to the larger area in the basement.I'm very pleased with the Thiel CS2.4 + PS Audio M700 setup but I'm always curious about other gear.
I want to try a pair of vintage-like speakers and lower power in the 50-WPC range or so but under 100-WPC. I've been reading about and eyeing the KLH Model 5, Klipsch Heresy IV, JBL L100, and similar.
I owned the original JBL L100s so I'm not likely to go that route again. My only Klipsch experience was horrific. Highly regarded and reviewed speaker sounded a mess. Bass port in back made boomy inarticulate farts against the wall. I've been reading and watching YouTube videos on the KLH Model 5 at $2500/pair. To me, they look cool especially on the included stands ;-) To others they look outdated.
