Muzak

Your comment on Muzak reminded me of elevator music that I equated with the sound of my Mark Levinson 383 integrated amp that I had for a couple months. That thing was as boring as elevator music so I sold it. But it was a pretty piece of audiophile jewelry!

"Elevator music (also known as Muzak, piped music, or lift music) is a type of background music played in rooms where many people come together (that is, with no intention whatsoever to listen to music), and during telephone calls when placed on hold."
