Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Maybe it's just me who's odd?

Your are not odd. You are just not an American! Beginning in the 1950s, the baby boom generation of Amercians grew up up with ubiquitous music in cars, grocery stores, hamburger joints, "family" resturants, elevators, doctor's waiting rooms, auto repair shops, laundromats, cinemas, and just about every public space with electrical service. We invented the pestilence of Muzak and exported it nation wide in the 50s. The younger generations have lived their whole lives to date with boom boxes, personal stereos, ear buds, Walkmans, smartphones, iPods, etc for decades. Many American TV melodramas incorporate syrupy pop music into the screenplay at key emotional points to emphasize the the otherwise banal romantic significance of the characters (the worst of the bunch are the doctors shows). I think that many of my fellow citizens believe that life is somehow less authentic without background music. Music in the garage does not surprise me at all.
