I have not auditioned either of the following but I looked up Techradar which gave the Sony a 4/5 star rating (which is good but not all-star). Presumably you will pay close to $1,000 for a machine with no warranty.
Also the cheap as chips Sony BDP S6700 has SACD https://www.whathifi.com/sony/bdp-s6700/review and is $300 or so.
Or you could look at the $549 brand new with 2-3?? year warranty OPPO 203 (4.5/5 from the same TechRadar) which is also a SACD machine among doing plenty of other things like DVD Audio and of course Bluray Audio.
I can't imagine the Sony is going to really sound better than either OPPO and if it does probably only marginally and if it is only marginally then would it not make more sense to buy the machine that is half the price and plays vastly more formats AND still has optical outs for a better sounding DAC??
I remember back in the day listening to numerous multi-thousand dollar CD players and finding that a Pioneer 100 disc changer coupled with a Sonic Frontiers dac sounded better - the combination of which was less than half the price - all the features and better sound for less - but it took up more space. If the Sony changers weren't built so crappy I would have been able to get behind those as well. And with 100 or 400 disc loaded into those things - it made for a Rock heavy transport mechanism with all that weight!
There is also a 203SE (Special Edition) out of Hong Kong as well as a 205SE which may come to other markets. You can see the upgrades here.
