I've only heard the Schiit but when we talk about advantage disadvantage - the way it works for me is the product proves itself in the listening room or it doesn't - the technobabble crap is entirely WORTHLESS. If DAC A sounds wondrous and DAC B sounds like crap then the engineering team and designer of DAC A is the designer I would "trust" over the latter. At the California Audio show in July the three best sounding rooms had three things in common:
1) All 3 used a Non Oversampling DA converters R2R ladder (Border Patrol and Audio Note)
2) All used CD transports instead of computers/laptops - the transport with the same music sounded better in the same DAC and same system than coming off computers as well! The Transports were either CEC Belt Drive or Audio Note transports using the Philips Pro 2LF Mechanism with tube output stages.
3) All three (and fourth spot) used tubes in the amplifier circuit - either all tube or a hybrid).I would highly recommend you try an Audio Note DAC 0.1x before you buy the Schiit. The DAC 0.1X does have usb input and is Non Oversampling and uses the older school TD1543 DAC chip - the USB input is also stone age compared to anything new as I believe the DAC has been selling for over 10 years. I bought one in September. It sounds better than my other DAC that uses both SS and Tube outputs from a 9016 ESS Sabre chip which is 32/192khz.
And if you have a bit more bucks - I'd look at the ANKits DAC 2.1 - I am glad to see so many companies copying AN's NOS no filter r2r ladder approach. What I am not so glad to see is that people can't hear how obviously better it sounds.
So I lean to the company that uses Non Oversampling DACs and r2r as based on my experience and perhaps the owner of those companies who copy Audio Note's approach to DACs they demonstrate some good hearing :)
I think you will have a tough time finding a finished DAC for $3,000 that will beat this kit for $1650
