Hi,
Technically speaking the problems of Multibit and Delta Sigma are opposite.
Multibit is weakest at low levels, low sample rates and around zero-crossing (though circuit tricks exist that can reduce this a lot) and Delta Sigma is weakest at high levels and high sample rates.
So in many ways multibit and Delta Sigma are each others antithesis.
An intelligent combination of Multibit for the upper bits (with measures taken to control the zero crossing glitch) and Delta Sigma for the lowest bits seems like an ideal synthesis that allows the weaknesses of each system to be avoided and the strength of each system to be retained.
The Patents that limit the use of this tech are running out.

At 20 bits, you are on the verge of dynamic range covering fly-farts-at-20-feet to intolerable pain. Really, what more could we need?
