I agree. Don't let these guys BS you. It's cool these days to bad-mouth the ESS dac chips. I think that mainly is due to their use in the very popular and numerous Oppo products. These players, which try to do everything at a price, are pretty poor performers when it comes to simple music reproduction though they have been given pretty high praise in the audio press. I think too many think the chip is the beginning and end of great sound. Power supplies, sophisticated clocking schemes, analog stages and passive parts count for more IMO.

And yes, I would not pay multi-kilobucks for a DAC that doesn't do DSD. I'm having too much fun with ripped SACD and other DSD files to be without. They're special.
