Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Undesirable DAC + Bad Audio Output Section = Great Sounding CD/SACD Player?

If the equation in the subject line is correct, then Marantz must be doing everything else PERFECTLY because my Marantz SA-7S1 is one terrific sounding player!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some cranky owner that is offended by Alex or Allen's comments. In fact I admire their obvious technical knowledge. However, something just doesn't add up here.

I have owned my SA-7S1 for about six weeks now and generally speaking, its sound quality has more than met my expectations. I run it directly into my SE 45 amp with built-in level controls, via the RCA/single-ended outputs. It replaced a Metronome CDP used as a transport and an Ack dAck! 2.0 DAC.

I really liked the Ack, but the combination with the Metronome was not nearly as good as the Marantz. I initially thought the Marantz had a "light" overall balance, but that was gone within a few days of use. BTW, I'm only referring to RBCD playback here! I only have about a dozen SACDs so far and the best of them sound a little bit warmer and more "analog" like than their CD counterparts.
