Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

RE: Some info on the Marantz SA11S1 DSP & DAC

SM5866 does not have FIR filter for the PCM, but it still has a built-in interpolator that does oversample at 3 to 24 ratio depending on the input sample rate, master clock frequency and selected operating rate. This is done so the D/S modulator runs at the same speed all the time, which simplifies the analog filtering stage.

So, SM5866 has nothing to do with R2R DACs such as PCM1704. Also, it is impossible to use the SM5966 in a “classic Non-OS design”.

In my view, SM5866 is not that desirable considering its third order D/S modulator and 23 output levels.

Regards,
Alex
