Re: CD PLAYER FOR $3000

I highly recomend the Naim CD5. I actually preferred it (from memory) than the Cary players I have auditioned (only in in-store demos). You could also look for the Naim CDX which will be available soon at lower used prices due to the introduction of the CDX2. I just purchased the Naim CD5 after a long demo and am extremely pleased (although my unit is still virgin and in the burn in process).

I posted a review of my impressions of the unit on September 11 on the digital page of this assylum. Especially if you have tubed equipment, it may work for you. What every you do, I highly recomend you do a home demo, as the equipment will often sound very different at home than at the store. Most Naim players are also upgradable with an external power supply, and contrary to popular belief, can work extremely well outside the context of an all Naim system. Don't be scared off by the DIN plugs! You can easily get din to phono cables.

Good luck with your search and let us know about your impressions/decision!

Keep groovin'
