Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

It's a Crapshoot........

A dedicated CD transport should sound better as a transport to an outboard DAC than an integrated CD player doing the same function...... But I personally haven't found such results in reality......

(A CD player includes an internal DAC, a CD transport does not.)

Heck..... Look what I've been using for a CD transport...... An early 1990s vintage Philips CDC935 CD changer ..... Using an Audio Technica HDSL1 digital converter to convert the 935's coaxial digital output into optical, running to an outboard DAC..... I don't even long for a dedicated transport..... This piece, which theoretically should be awful as a CD transport, performs as well in that function as any piece I've ever owned.

Another CD player that performs very well in that function is the old JVC XL-Z1050 CD player..... But I still prefer the Philips CDC935........
