Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

All great

Hey Abe,
I bought the Cambridge CXC first because just as I learned about CD Transports one showed up for sale locally and pretty cheap at $275. It really sounded good and I was hooked.

In the next few days I learned of the Audiolab CDT6000 and wondered which was best. I found one for about $50 more than the CXC so I bought it and compared them.

It was very close but the Audiolab seemed a bit better overall so I sold the CXC and kept the Audiolab.

Of course, doing all this research I learned of the Jay's Audio CDT2-MK3 and kept a look out for any deals on these. When one showed up on A'gon under $2,000 I jumped on it.

While both the Cambridge and the Audiolab were quite good, the Jay's was so massively and instantly better that it is a no brainer. The bass is massive, tight, controlled. The mids are warm and the highs smooth. Sound stage is wider than my room is wide.

I originally had an Onkyo 7030 CD player - it was cheap at $200 and the internet seems to really like it. But as a CDP and as a transport it was very very mediocre. Like many people (most) I didn't think a CD Transport would really make a difference. So, when the CXC proved that oh so wrong I was sent down the transport rabbit hole.

None of these... the Onkyo, the CXC or the CDT6000 failed mechanically in any way.

I had 800 CDs in boxes in my attic. I retrieved them all and sorted through the ones I still felt were relevant and have a new CD shelf with about 250 CDs in my listening room. I've purchased 5 new CDs recently and another dozen or so used CDs,too.

My best recent find is the Byrds box set with 4-cds and thick booklest for $21. Imaging what the vinyl box would cost!!!!

Before the transports I listed to Qobuz all day every day. Now, I revisit my old CDs and can't believe how full and present they sound. It's like I never heard them before.

I purchased a complete set of Steely Dan SHCDs from Japan and it's that old " I hear things I never heard before " chestnut with each one of those.

Cheers
