I agree that people should consider the whole and buy what they like that they think is good value.

The hard part of converting from digital to analog is the DAC (!) and not many brands can do, or are willing to do that in-house so they rely on integrated DAC solutions. In what I think is marketing genius, they persuade their customers that it is what goes around the DAC chip that is most important because that is the easy stuff they can do and not the hard stuff inside the DAC chip. And smaller companies with smaller volumes need some way to justify their higher prices that their special sauce is more special.
