Thanks for your post. The Njoe Tjoeb was a very rocky start, it gave me lots of small issues ending with a cracked RCA PC board pin.
Once I settled it down with the OpAmps and a pair of JAN 6922, it has just worked with zero fuss.
The Njoe Tjoeb really takes any sort of Edge off Digital. It must have something to do with the Vacuum Tube output stage.
Now hear this... I measured the Plate, Plate to Cathode and Cathode voltages on the 6922 and they were very low, they will not even make a data point on a set of 6922 curves.
If I recall correctly the Plate to Cathode voltage was about 40 Volts DC.
I sent AH! an e-mail and their response was confirming that the voltages were correct, nothing else.
This must make the tubes last longer than a typically biased 6922/6DJ8.
Once I did roll a pair of Amperex 6922 and the difference was audible, but not revolutionary.
The best sounding variants were the Tungsram E88CC. Those tubes had a clarity from top to bottom, but the one's I have are all shot as I purchased them used on Ebay. They must have been on duty on one of the many torture 6922 Preamps out there.
I am now spinning some Diana Krall and enjoying it very much.
Njoe Tjoeb + Dynaco PAS3X + Dynaco ST35 + Focal 706V + Mapleshade Helix Loudspeaker Cable (the true iconoclast cable, breaks all of the Hi-End rules).
