I have my amp and Benchmark DAC plugged into an APC power conditioner that has a power switch. I thought this would be the perfect way to turn off my amp that has the power switch in the back and the Benchmark which has no power switch.
The problem I ran into is that when I turn off the power conditioner there is a loud boom. I didn't think it was that big of a deal until I noticed that along with the boom, the output tubes on my amp arc for a split second. That can't be good for the amp or the tubes at the very least.
My first thought was that this was being caused by the power conditioner, but it turns out that the boom is caused by the Benchmark losing power.
Can anyone else confirm this this is a normal condition for the Benchmark? It would certainly explain why there is no power switch.
