"All other USB DACs use the clock from the computer and then try to reconstruct a clock based on the rate that the audio packets are delivered. This leads to much higher jitter."
This is all true except for the jitter part. We have not found the jitter to be "much higher" in our new Overdrive USB DAC. It is a bit higher than our Pace-Car reclocker, but will not be audible but in only the most resolving systems. The reviews have the same conclusion. Our Pace-Car reclocker is better, but the Off-Ramp is really close in jitter. There is a lot more to getting low jitter design than the USB protocol, namely the clocks you use and the implementation.
However, because our Off-Ramp and Overdrive USB interfaces have slightly higher jitter than our Pace-Car reclocker, we are also looking at releasing a new USB interface in 2009 that is asynchronous, but not Gordons. We plan to support 24/192 and convert 16/44.1 into 24/44.1 like our current USB interface does. We just want to make it so that our customers can get the same performance as the Pace-Car with our USB at lower cost.
