Interestingly it was Stereophile that led to the creation of Audio Amateur(and Glass Audio and Speaker builder).

Way back before Stereophile went to the small format Ed Dell wrote an article published in Stereophile to build a super version from scratch of a Dyna Stereo 70. As usual the issue was way late and the article dominated the issue. Reader complaints were rife complaining of waiting and then not getting the expected reviews. Obviously no reat of that issue was possible.

Ed Dell decided a DIY magazine was needed. Gordon Holt lent him the Stereophile reader list and Audio Amateur was the result.
