Hey Ivan,
We never implemented the complementary filter because the sound from it was frankly underwhelming in most cases. As John mentioned, it can sound great when the file was recorded with the QA-9, but Ayre was never about pushing the QA-9 on to every recording artist with the goal of being the only game in town.
While a few studios, like Rick Rubin, picked up the QA-9, we couldn't guarantee that everything out there was recorded on the QA-9 and there was nothing we could do on things recorded BEFORE the QA-9, so using the experimental filter was only really useful for someone with a closed system that was recording their own albums with the QA-9 and playing them back on an Ayre DAC.
