One more factor

On the other hand if Harry Pearson recommended a great budget system to a friend or family member, you can be pretty sure that they would enjoy that system for many years.

is understanding one's priorities and bias. HP, along with his comrade in arms Dr. Cooledge, were long term friends and mentors . Having said that, I discovered as a teenager that I was especially sensitive to overall loudspeaker coherency. Consequently, I was never a great fan of the IRS because while it did many things very well, the bass towers sounded as though they belonged to a different speaker. Likewise, HP tended to be more of a power use and ran the bass towers at a higher level than I favored. It was hearing JWC's Dayton-Wrights that shaped my awareness and preferences to this day forty some years later.

I find that knowing what is important to a reviewer helps frame the comments into a more useful perspective.

TAS did that back in the day and I think Stereophile might(?), but I'm not sure how quickly I could find that information on their website.
