This is standard practice in magazine publishing.

Annoying, I'll give you, but dishonest? Yes, publishing companies like
subscribers to renew sooner rather than later. But there is also a practical
point, which is that if you leave it to the last minute to renew, you will
probably miss an issue.

For example, your sub ends with the August issue, which will be mailed
to you mid-July. If you renew at that time, the printer will already have
been sent the mailing information for the September issue. So the next
issue you will receive would be October.
