It's a good piece

There is nothing mean-spirited, nothing "hipper-than-thou", no snark, and absolutely nothing rude in that piece. A "screed" would not go into detail, as Baird does, on the Eagles songs that, though completely overshadowed by the hits, still bring him joy.

I think it was fair, and delved, just a little, into the interesting ways both artists audiences are influenced and changed by Big Hits. It does make it harder for us to pay attention to their other work, and it certainly influences the creative process enormously. There's a book there, but I'm not the one to write it. We need the Alex Ross of pop and rock.

As for "another example of obscurity taking a swipe at popularity," Stereophile's 75,000 subscribers is a trifle bigger, I think, than the number of inmates reading *this* post, at least.
